Artist-in-Residence Open Studio
Join us each month from May thru October for an Open Studio from 11 am to 12:30 pm in the Artist-in-Residence Studio, 735 Nod Hill Rd, Wilton, CT next to the visitor parking lot. Come meet the artist, view and discuss their artwork – it’s informal and artsy! The Friends of Weir Farm will offer light refreshments and a fun art activity for children at this year’s Open Studios.

Weir Farm Artist Collective
Opportunity for Local Artists to Gather and Build Community!

Calling all artists! The Weir Farm Artist Collective is a collaboration of independent artists following the tradition of creativity within the Weir Farm landscape. Its purpose is to inform, support, encourage, and engage accomplished artists of all mediums to share ideas, opportunities, and technical solutions. May through October, the first Thursday of the month will be a gathering in the Burlingham Barn with a focused discussion topic, and the third Thursday of the month will be a ‘paint out’ style gathering where artist can come to the park and make art together. Parking for the ‘paint out’ days on third Thursdays will be in the overflow parking lot near the Weir Barn. Learn more about the collective and view program dates here.
Activity is free. No registration required. Artists of all skill levels that come to the park for inspiration are welcome.
“Out There: A National Parks Story” Feature Documentary

Join the Friends of Weir Farm NHP for an award-winning feature documentary that will take you on a road trip through the national parks, capturing stunning visuals, heartfelt stories, and the rich legacy of the National Park Service.
“Out There: A National Parks Story” follows two childhood friends taking a 10,000-mile road trip through the U.S. national parks, revealing a profound tapestry of stories from the people they meet along the way. The documentary is a heartfelt journey through the human stories, stewardship, and spirit of adventure that define America’s natural wonders. Watch the trailer here.
Following the screening there will be a Q & A with the film Director, Brendan Hall.

Second Sunday Stone Wall Tour

Stone Wall Tours are offered once a month in-season on the second Saturday. Join a park ranger on a ramble through the fields of Weir Farm National Historical Park to examine the three different types of stone walls on the property and learn about the rich history. The stone walls not only provide an opportunity to explore New England’s geologic and cultural past, but they have also served as a source of inspiration to the artists that have lived and visited here for over 140 years. The tour will meet at the park sign out front of the Visitor Center.

The Art of Phenology Workshop

Join us for a creative workshop at Weir Farm National Historical Park to celebrate nature! Learn about phenology, the study of seasonal changes in plants and animals and create your own artistic Phenology Wheel and nature journal. Weir Farm Volunteer Naturalist Jean Linville will introduce phenology and give an overview of Weir Farm’s program. Garden Crew Volunteer Susan Stein will guide you in creating an artistic Phenology Wheel so you can begin observing seasonal changes and practice the art of phenology! No experience needed. The workshop is ideal for nature lovers, gardeners, bird watchers, journalers, and artists. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own art supplies.

Preference is given to new attendees and registration is otherwise first come, first serve. This workshop is for ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Rain date is May 31.

B.A.R.K. Ranger Pet Portrait in the Park Days!

Bring your furry friend to Weir Farm to participate in our B.A.R.K. Ranger program and paint a portrait of your pet! All art supplies will be provided, and art instructors will be on hand to provide tips. When you’ve finished your painting, your dog can be sworn in as a B.A.R.K. Ranger and earn a certificate and dog tag. Pop in anytime between 9 am and 11:30 am. Can’t make Pet Portrait in the Park Day? Stop by during visitor center hours and use our supplies to make your own. For more information about the B.A.R.K. Ranger go to the park website. Please note we can not mail dog tags. The B.A.R.K. Ranger program is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of Weir Farm.

Artists from Weir Farm National Historical Park’s Artist Collective program will be featured in an upcoming exhibit at the Ridgefield Library. The exhibition, Weir Inspired: Works by the Weir Farm Artist Collective, will be on view during library hours from June 2 through June 29, with an opening reception, provided by the Friends of Weir Farm, on Saturday June 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. As the proud steward of America’s most sacred historical places, the National Park Service is celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. Weir Farm NHP will be hosting an Art is Revolutionary celebration on Flag Day to honor this milestone. This free event will feature art demonstrations by members of the Weir Farm Artist Collective, hands-on activities, free-to-use art supplies to create your own masterpiece, birthday cake and refreshments provided by Friends of Weir Farm, and open house tours with live piano music in the Weir House. Parking is limited – please consider carpooling, walking, or biking if possible.

Connecticut’s Historic Gardens Day

Celebrate Connecticut’s Historic Gardens Day 2026 at Weir Farm NHP and explore the park’s four historic gardens. The gardens offer great places to enjoy the flora, paint, or draw. Don’t miss the Secret Garden (circa 1910), the Sunken Garden and Terraced Garden (1930s – 1940s). Spend an afternoon painting en plain air (using the park’s free-to-use watercolor supplies) in a landscape that inspired artists for over 140 years. Stop by for short informal talks with the park’s expert Garden Crew Volunteers who will be on hand to answer questions about the history, flowers, restoration, and ongoing preservation of Weir Farm’s four historic gardens.
Step back into history and tour the artistic Weir House and artists’ studios. Or, take a short hike to the Weir Pond.

Weir Farm offers unique, popular night-time Impressionist Painting Workshops led by Master Instructor Dmitri Wright allowing artists of all levels to capture the evening landscape. Historically, J. Alden Weir created rare, moody nocturnes and today the park continues to inspire contemporary night art. Registration is limited. Be sure to sign up ASAP starting June 1 to secure a spot. National Public Lands Day Volunteer Service Project
Friday, September 25, 2026 · 9:00 to11:30 am

Weir Farm NHP is hosting a trail restoration event in celebration of National Public Lands Day. Volunteers will assist National Park Service staff in trail maintenance and invasive plant removal, restoring habitat and repairing park trails. Join your local national park to improve park trails for neighbors, hikers, school groups, dog walkers, and visitors. Tools, gloves, and water will be provided. Proper attire for the activity includes sturdy toe shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and hats. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a bottle of water are recommended. This volunteer opportunity is appropriate for ages 10 and up, with parent or guardian supervision required for participants less than 18 years of age. Prior to the even volunteer agreement forms must be signed by each volunteer, or their legal guardian if less than 18 years of age.
