The Weir Farm Story

Friends of Weir Farm

Designed and preserved by artists, Weir Farm National Historic Site celebrates the power of creativity, art and nature.  A national park for the Arts, Weir Farm NHS includes the home, studio, and gardens of pioneering American Impressionist Julian Alden Weir.  It is the only national park dedicated to American Impressionist painting and notably one of the nation’s finest remaining landscapes of American art.

Gardens inspired Impressionist painters with their light and color.  Designed to create intimate spaces, Weir’s ‘Secret Garden’ still beckons you to come in and find a quite moment.

While on site, also plan to visit Weir’s art studio and house and the studio of famous American sculptor Mahonri Young.

The grounds of the 60-acre national park are open year round from dawn to dusk and you are welcome to visit the park on your own.  Help yourself to park brochures, self-guided tours, Junior Ranger activities, and the National Park Passport stamp on the Visitor Center porch to customize your visit.  The Visitor Center and historic buildings are open May to October.  Plein air painters, aspiring artists, and nature lovers are welcome year round.

Experience the beauty of this historic rural landscape and rediscover the beauty of light and color in everyday life. We hope to see you soon!
